This book wouldn't please the modern day pharasees but I have no problem with that. Maybe it's not doctrinally perfect; probably neither is your doctrine and to surmise otherwise is pure arrogance. What this book brought out in me was the deep longing inside of me to be the man I always wanted to be. Getting "information" is one thing; getting "illumination" is a rarity but this book did it for me. Maybe it's not for everyone but it was perfect for me and it spoke to the deepest depths of my soul and spirit like very few other books have. It made me realize just how far my own life had been pushed onto the back burner and how far I was from where I wanted to be. This book helped me see myself for who I am and who I've been pretending to be for the last 30 years. No doubt there are some who have been an unwitting cuckhold to the woman that wears the pants; they would not like this book. Only those that are truly "real man" to the core of their being, those deprived from years of neglect, those who have fought the rigors of everyday life, business, finances, raising children, and tending to the demands of their marriage will feel something stir within. It brings to light the sacrifices made by most American men and reminds us that we are first and foremost "men" - not "Christians" or "Christian men". |

I have been using this book to teach a men's life class at church and as word has spread about how great it is and the disucssion that it stimulates, I have had more men join the class every week.

This book amazed me and hit me at my core. Eldredge was able to put into words feelings and ideas that I have struggled with for years. He nails many of the problems the "good guys" of today face and examines the origin of the mixed signals we are bombarded with. More importantly he gives us answers and points us in the right direction to make important changes in the way we feel about ourselves. |
